Process

Generally, to join our team, the process consists of three important steps:

  • Step 1: Passing an exam
  • Step 2: Applying for job openings
  • Step 3: Interviewing for a position

Anyone can apply, but you must meet the minimum qualifications for specific job. Specific details about the application process and the minimum qualifications for certain jobs are described below. More information is available at the Work for Cal/OSHA webpage.

Cal/OSHA is Hiring Inspectors

Read the "Minimum Qualifications" on the Junior Safety Engineer job specification, Assistant Safety Engineer job specification and Associate Safety Engineer job specification to learn what classification you may qualify for and is the right fit for you.

Exams: To be hired for the Junior, Assistant, or Associate Safety Engineer positions, you must pass an exam. Depending on the position you would like to apply for, you must take either the Junior, Assistant, or Associate Safety Engineer exam. Some job postings are accepting both Assistant Safety Engineer and Associate Safety Engineer applicants, therefore, you are encouraged to take both exams if you meet the "Minimum Qualifications".

Industrial Hygienists are encouraged to apply to Associate Safety Engineer job postings with the working title of “Cal/OSHA Enforcement Inspector.”
