SWAG partners with Air Flow Research to launch new Apprenticeship

The Strong Workforce Apprenticeship Group (SWAG), a partnership between College of the Canyons and Goodwill Southern California, will hold an "Apprentice Signing Day" with Air Flow Research, a leader in the manufacture of Intake Manifolds. A total of eight apprentices will begin their training as Machine Operators. They will receive On-the-job Training and Related Technical Instruction. In twelve months, the apprentices will earn a Certificate of Completion from the US Department of Labor for the Machine Operator I occupation. Tracy DiFilippis, Sector Strategies Manager, Advanced Manufacturing, Goodwill Southern California is a Co-founder of SWAG: "This is a great day for apprenticeship in California, and SWAG is thrilled to be part of it." Representatives from College of the Canyons, Goodwill Southern California, and Air Flow Research will be in attendance at the ceremony.

The Strong Workforce Apprenticeship Group (SWAG) in partnership with the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE), Go-Biz-CASCADE, the Division of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS), the US Department of Labor (USDOL), the Employment Training Panel (ETP), and the California's Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development will host a forum to on Cybersecurity Apprenticeships. "The purpose of this forum is to provide a Roadmap to Apprenticeship for prospective employers who will be in attendance," says Jeffrey Forrest, Vice-President of Economic and Workforce Development at College of the Canyons, and Co-founder of SWAG. Discussions will center around recent work with employers in identifying the competencies for On-the-Job Training in a Cybersecurity apprenticeship. In addition, the Strong Workforce Apprenticeship Group will offer a series of potential models for employers who wish to integrate apprenticeship into their workforce development strategy.
