Education Subcommittee
The Education Subcommittee of the Interagency Advisory Committee on Apprenticeship (IACA) supports high-quality apprenticeship and related training pathways across California’s education sector. It brings together education, workforce, labor, and employer partners to identify barriers, improve alignment, and develop practical guidance for sustainable educator apprenticeships. The subcommittee works to expand paid, affordable career options from early care and education through TK–12, helping aspiring educators from diverse backgrounds enter, advance, and thrive in the profession.
Message from the Chair
Adam Ebrahim
Chief Deputy Executive Director
Commission on Teacher Credentialing
Welcome, and thank you for your interest in the IACA Education Subcommittee. I am honored to serve as chair and to work with education, workforce, labor, and employer partners who are committed to helping more Californians become the educators our students need.
This work is personal for me. I am the son of a teacher, married to a teacher, and began my own career as a teacher. I also entered teaching as an intern with young children at home, so I understand both the promise of alternative pathways and the financial pressure many aspiring educators face. Too often, people who would make excellent educators sacrifice income, take on debt, and navigate disconnected systems simply to enter the profession.
Registered apprenticeship gives California an opportunity to approach educator preparation differently. Apprenticeship connects paid work, structured training, mentorship, and clear progress toward the qualifications future professionals need to grow in their chosen role. It also helps schools and early learning programs meet urgent staffing needs.
As chair, my focus is on creating the conditions for focused collaboration among our committee members and partners across the field. The strength of the subcommittee comes from the voice, experience and commitment of its members, educators, apprentices, employers, preparation programs, and communities across California. Together, we can identify what is working, address implementation barriers, strengthen alignment across systems, and move practical, sustainable apprenticeship models forward.
I invite you to engage with the subcommittee, share your perspective, and help advance paid, supported preparation pathways that expand opportunity and strengthen schools and early learning programs across California.
