New Funding Opportunities for Expanding Apprenticeship Programs

The U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) announced several new funding opportunities to support pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs. These funding opportunities are designed to support workforce development initiatives focused on cultivating an equitable workforce for all. Community-based organizations, workforce development boards, intermediaries, local education agencies, employers, and labor market stakeholders interested in learning more about the new funding opportunities are encouraged to visit the hyperlinks provided below:

  • YouthBuild Program:  The U.S. Department of Labor announced the availability of $99 million in funding to support the delivery of pre-apprenticeships in high-demand industries including construction, clean energy, healthcare, infrastructure, information technology, and hospitality to young people, ages 16 to 24, in communities where they face persistent barriers to academic and career skills development.
  • Good Jobs Challenge:  The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA), launched a new phase of funding for the Good Jobs Challenge. Applicants must implement training for jobs that advance key technology focus areas as established by the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, which include advanced energy, biotechnology, robotics, and semiconductors.
  • Reentry Employment Opportunities program:  The U.S. Department of Labor today announced the availability of $45 million in funding to support programs to provide skills training through work-based learning, employment services, educational support, and mentorship to young adults, ages 15 to 24, in communities affected by violence, crime and poverty.
