Northern California Carpenter Training (NCCT) Apprentice, Jordyn Martinez began her career as a carpenter by joining the NCCT apprenticeship program in January of 2024.  In April 2024 she began working for signatory contractor S+B James on a modernization project at Sheldon High School, her first job as an NCCT apprentice. S+B James foreman, Noah Teegarden says, “Jordyn is an excellent apprentice, she always shows up early, follows instructions, grasps the skills provided during on-the-job training, and is very safety conscientious." In an interview with Jordy, she also shared being able to observe other classes working on their projects at the Fairfield NCCT training center has taught her a lot and has provided her with a large range of skills.

Jordyn M. began her journey to an apprenticeship at the Sacramento Job Corps Center (SJCC). Upon enrolling, she learned that SJCC offers earn-and-learn career pathways that include carpentry pre-apprenticeship, cement masonry pre-apprenticeship, building construction technology pre-apprenticeship, and many more. These programs serve as a gateway for individuals seeking to enter high-demand industries. Through SJCC, Jordyn participated in the carpentry pre-apprenticeship construction program and earned four safety certifications. Upon successful completion of the SJCC program, Joryn was offered a direct onramp to the Northern California Carpenter Training (NCCT) Apprenticeship program.

Sacramento Job Corps Center recently celebrated their 60th anniversary on August 29, 2024. Many events and celebrations occurred during the week, including celebrating Jordyn and her success as a SJCC graduate. Jordyn attended the celebration with S+B James foreman, Noah Teegarden. Noah was invited to share a few words about Jordyn and what an awesome apprentice she is. The staff at SJCC were so thrilled to see Jordyn and proud of her status as Carpenter apprentice.

Keep up the good work, Jordyn!
