Specific symptoms of types of heat illness
Heatstroke - usually fatal unless emergency medical treatment is provided immediately. Body temperature from 102 - 104 oF or higher within 10-15 minutes.
Symptoms:
- No sweating, hot and dry skin (e.g., red, bluish), muscles may twitch
- Headache, confusion, convulsions, dizziness
- Pulse fast / weak, shallow breathing
- Seizures, fits, unconsciousness, coma
Heat Exhaustion - skin feels cool but the body temperature may be dangerously high.
Symptoms:
- Heavy sweating, muscle cramps
- Extreme weakness and fatigue, nausea and vomiting
- Headache, dizziness, fainting
- Pulse fast / weak, shallow breathing
Fainting - sudden dizziness, unconsciousness.
Heat Cramps - painful muscle spasms that may occur during work or at night.
Heat Rash - pimples / small blisters in various parts of the body.
