DIR Shares Questionnaire for Pre-Qualification of Contractors Seeking to Bid on Public Works Projects
The Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) has shared a model questionnaire for public agencies to use in order to screen contractors who wish to bid on public works projects in California. The questionnaire has been updated so that it can be tailored to suit the specific needs of each public agency, is easy to use and meets all provisions of public works law.
As specified in Public Contract Code section 20101, public agencies since 1999 could require licensed contractors to “pre-qualify” for the right to bid on public works projects, utilizing a pre-qualification system.
Public agencies can access the questionnaire on the Public Works Pre‐Qualification of Contractors web page.
DIR has extensive information regarding public works requirements on its Public Works website. General inquiries related to public works can be emailed to publicworks@dir.ca.gov.
