Occupational Health and Safety Management

All employers are required by law to include an active occupational health and safety program in their operations and to allocate the responsibility for this program to a specific individual or individuals. This timely seven-course program will provide the essential background and tools you need to successfully perform the role of safety manager.

Courses offered

Basic Principles of Risk Management(18 hours), Winter Quarter
Risk control, including loss control and its relation to safety and health programs.
Required course.

Principles of Occupational Ergonomics (18 hours), Winter Quarter
Overview of the basic facts and laws concerning the relationship between human body motion, processes, and machine in the workplace.
Required course.

Fundamental of Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health (18 hours), Winter Quarter
Principles of recognition, evaluation and control of potentially hazardous chemical, physical and biological agents in the workplace.
Required course.

Impact of Substance Abuse in the Workplace (18 hours), Winter Quarter
A study of the substantial role of substance abuse in on-the-job injuries. Students will come to understand the severity of this extensive problem and learn how to recognize it. Elements of control will also be discussed.
Elective course.

Fundamentals of Safety Management (18 hours), Spring Quarter
Critical elements of a good safety program; recognition and compliance with state and federal laws.
Required course.

Theory and Development of Safety Management (18 hours), Spring Quarter
Overview of evolution of safety management.
Required course.

Facilities and Asset Safety Management (18 hours), Spring Quarter
An overview of additional areas of concern to the safety manager including: general liability, fire protection, auto and auto fleet operations, and emergency preparedness programs and how they are integrated into the overall safety and health program.
Elective course.
