PUBLIC WORKS - OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH

California Occupational Safety and Health 161 (3 units)
A course covering California Occupational Safety and Health standards and the National Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 as applied to public works. The safety standards for excavations; trenches; tunnels; rock drilling; construction and hauling equipment; flammable vapors and toxic substances.

Strongly recomm.: Reading 020 if reading score is below level 2

Hazardous Materials Management 165 (3 units)
This course covers the necessary coordination between governmental agencies, federal, state, and local levels relating to the procedures and processes of handling toxic waste materials. Emphasis will be placed on how industry, police, fire and other agencies coordinate the handling and disposal of hazardous materials to maintain a safer environment.

Supervision of Hazardous Materials in the Work Place 167 (3 units)
This course will provide the supervisor/manager in the hazardous materials work place with tools for effective operations. It will provide information on federal, state and local laws and regulations.

Hazardous Materials Risk Assessment and Auditing 169 (3 units)
This course emphasizes the evaluation and assessment of risks associated with the use, storage and disposal of hazardous materials in the work place. The course will encourage the development of a rational approach for both compliance and safe operations in any facility where hazardous materials may be found. Emphasis is on proper approaches to environmental assessments and auditing.

Prerequisite: Public Works 165 and 167.
Strongly recomm.: Typing and/or computer skills
