Mitch Steiger is a Legislative Representative for the California Federation of Teachers (CFT), a union of educators and classified professionals. CFT, representing over 120,000 education workers statewide, fights to defend and improve members’ wages, benefits, and working conditions, with an equally determined focus on education quality and student wellbeing. Mitch’s role is to advocate in a variety of issue areas, including occupational health and safety as well as workers’ compensation, and in his previous role at the California Labor Federation, he participated in the stakeholder discussions that produced SB 863 (de Leon, 2012).

Mitch has been with CFT since 2023, and prior to that served as a Legislative Advocate for the California Labor Federation, Researcher/Organizer for United Food & Commercial Workers Local 21, Legislative Advocate for the Washington State Building & Construction Trades Council, and COPE Intern and Legislative Intern for the Washington State Labor Council. He is a member of the Field Representatives Union (FRU) and the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW).
