 Protects workers and the public from safety hazards through its Cal/OSHA, elevator, amusement ride, aerial tramway, ski lift and pressure vessel programs, and provides consultative assistance to employers.

 Elevator, Ride and Tramway (ERT)

Effective June 30, 2003 no conveyance covered by Part 3, Chapter 2 of the California Labor Code shall be erected, constructed, installed, materially altered, tested, maintained, repaired, or serviced by any person, firm, or corporation unless the person, firm, or corporation is certified by the division. In addition, as of the same day, any person who erects, constructs, installs, alters, tests, maintains, services or repairs, removes, or dismantles any such conveyance without supervision must be certified by the division as a certified competent conveyance (elevator) mechanic.

Interested parties can download the application for certified qualified conveyance company (372KB, pdf format), doc, certified competent conveyance (elevator) mechanic (354KB, pdf format), doc and temporary certified competent conveyance mechanic (.99MB, pdf format), doc complete the application and submit it to the division for processing.

The ERT Unit conducts inspections and issues permits to operate these devices; conducts periodic inspections to ensure the devices are operating safely and investigates complaints and accidents.

The ERT Unit headquarters is located in Sacramento and the ERT Unit has district offices throughout the state.
