The Commission on Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation is pleased to release the third
edition of "Workers' Compensation in California: A Guidebook for Injured Workers," November 2006, now available in

and Spanish
.
The commission would like to thank and acknowledge the project
advisory committee, the production team, and all other individuals and organizations that assisted in this project. The
guidebook was created by UC Berkeley, Institute of Industrial Relations (IIR) and Labor Occupational Health Program
(LOHP), under contract with the Commission on Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation.
The guidebook includes workers' compensation legislation that was enacted in 2003 and 2004, and regulations adopted through November 2006. The guidebook will continue to be updated as needed to reflect the latest information.
A Guidebook for Injured Workers, 2nd Edition, February 2005
The "Workers' Compensation in California, A Guidebook for Injured Workers" available in
English
and Spanish
provides an overview of the California workers' compensation system as of February 2005 and includes changes due to the passage of Senate Bill 899. It is meant to help workers with job injuries understand their legal rights and responsibilities, the steps to take to request workers' compensation benefits, and where to seek further information and help, if necessary. This guidebook will be updated as needed to reflect the latest information.

. Additionally,
new workers' compensation legislation was passed in 2004, making it very important
for all injured workers to read about changes to the system, some of which affect
ALL workers, regardless of injury date. Those changes are outlined in a supplement
to the guidebook for injured workers.
