You have decided to embark on a career as an electrician and have no experience or related instruction, complete the following.


Register as an electrician trainee

To qualify as an electrician trainee

  1. Enroll in a state recognized school
  2. Work directly supervised by a certified electrician. The supervisor may only have one electrician trainee under his/her supervision.

When can I take the test to be certified?

When you have accumulated 4,000 hrs of on-the-job-experience and have completed 480 hours of related and supplemental instruction.

You can register as an apprentice in a state approved program and take the exam in the last year of the apprenticeship program. When you are done with the program you may work for a Class C-10 licensed contractor.

OR

When you pass the exam you may work as an electrician
