§5574. Electrical Equipment.


(a) This Section shall apply to areas where Category 1 or 2 flammable liquids, or Category 3 flammable liquids with a flashpoint below 100oF (37.8oC), are stored, handled or dispensed. For areas where Category 3 flammable liquids with a flashpoint at or above 100oF (37.8oC) or Category 4 flammable liquids or liquids with a flashpoint greater than 199.4oF (93oC) (formerly designated Class IIIB Combustible liquids), are stored, handled or dispensed, the electrical equipment may be installed in accordance with the provisions of the California Electrical Safety Orders for nonclassified (ordinary) locations.
(b) All electrical equipment and wiring shall be of a type specified by and shall be installed in accordance with the California Electrical Safety Orders. All electrical equipment integral with the dispensing hose or nozzle shall be suitable for use in Division 1 locations.
(c) Title 24, Part 3, California Electrical Code, Article 514 shall be used to delineate and classify areas for the purpose of installation of electrical equipment under normal circumstances. A classified area shall not extend beyond an unpierced wall, roof or other solid partition.
(d) The area classifications listed in (c) shall be based on the premise that the installation meets the applicable requirements of these orders in all respects. (Title 24, T8-5574)
(e) Emergency electrical disconnects for motor fuel dispensing facilities shall be installed in accordance with Section 5572 and Section 2540.7 of Title 8.
(f) The design, fabrication, and installation of fuel dispensing equipment shall be approved or listed.
