Article 15. Special Access Lifts
§3093.53. Factor of Safety Suspension Means.
The factor of safety of the suspension means shall be not less than 7 based on
the manufacturer's rated breaking strength. When the car and counterweight are
suspended by steel ropes and the driving means is an endless steel roller type
chain, the factor of safety of such a chain, with the rated load in the car, shall
be not less than 8 based on the ultimate tensile strength.
