(a) Tamping poles or devices shall be made of wood or plastic materials manufactured
for tamping explosives.
NOTE: There are many kinds of plastics, most of which cannot be
used safely for tamping explosives. Some plastics are too soft to withstand
physical abuse, some are too hard, others are flammable or will absorb nitroglycerin
or generate hazardous accumulations of static electricity.
(b) The end of the tamping pole shall be kept squared and shall be of such size that the pole will not bypass the cartridges in the hole.
(c) Wooden tamping poles shall have no metal parts, other than non-ferrous metal ferrules, for extending the length of the pole.
