§5012. Training -- Supplemental Requirements for Cranes in Construction.


(a) Operators. The employer shall train each operator in accordance with Sections 5006.2(a) and (b), on the safe operation of the equipment the operator will be using.
(b) The employer shall train each operator of the equipment covered by Group 13 in the following practices:
(1) Whenever moving a boom off a support, first raise the boom a short distance (sufficient to take the load of the boom) to determine if the boom hoist brake requires adjustment.
Note: Where more specific manufacturer's instructions are available for this process, they shall apply.
(A) If the brake does not hold and cannot be adjusted to hold, the condition shall be repaired. (B) See Sections 5008.1(e) [tag-out] and 5008.1(g) [adjustments or repairs] for additional requirements.
(2) Where available, the manufacturer's emergency procedures for halting unintended equipment movement.
