(a) A pit shall be provided and the pit depth shall not be less than is required for the installation of the buffers and all other necessary elevator equipment.
(b) The pit shall be kept clean and free from dirt and rubbish. The pit shall not be used for storage purposes and shall be maintained free of an accumulation of water. [500.2a]
