MINIMUM WAGE

The IWC adopted an increase the minimum wage in California by fifty (50) cents for each of the next two years, such that on and after January 1, 2001 the minimum wage shall be no less than $6.25 per hour, and on and after January 1, 2002 the minimum wage shall be no less than $6.75 per hour.

The meals and lodging credits were increased proportionately to the minimum wage increase.

Meals or lodging may not be credited against the minimum wage without a voluntary written agreement between the employer and the employee. When credit for meals or lodging is used to meet part of the employer's minimum wage obligation, the amounts so credited may not be more than the following:

The remuneration test in Section 1(A) of Wage Order 14 was increased from $900.00 per month to a monthly salary equivalent no less than two times the state minimum wage for full time employment as was adopted earlier this year in all of the other Wage Orders.

The following non-statutory full or partial exemptions from the minimum wage were eliminated: public employees, full-time carnival ride operators, professional actors, personal attendants in private homes other than certain babysitters, minors and student nurses. The present partial exemption for learners was amended to include minors.
