Commission to Conduct Fact-Finding Hearing
on Workers' Compensation Permanent Disability

SAN FRANCISCO -- The California Commission on Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation announced today that it will conduct a fact-finding hearing on Workers' Compensation Permanent Disability.

The purpose of the hearing is to bring representatives from the California workers' compensation community together to identify problems and propose solutions to challenges noted in the California permanent disability benefit structure and program. This hearing is only to gather information; it is not part of any rule-making process.

The Permanent Disability Fact-Finding hearing is scheduled for Thursday, January 18, 1996, at 10 am in room 1138 (first floor auditorium) in the Los Angeles State Building at 107 South Broadway. If necessary, the hearing will continue on Friday, January 19, 1996, at 9 am in room 2020 (second floor).

The Commission invites public participation in the hearing. Interested parties should submit written material in lieu of or in support of oral testimony by January 2, 1996. If oral testimony is planned, please advise the Commission of the time required, not to exceed 30 minutes.

The Commission, created by the workers' compensation reform legislation of 1993, is charged with overseeing the health and safety and workers' compensation systems in California and recommending administrative or legislative modifications to improve their operation. The Commission was established to conduct a continuing examination of the workers' compensation system and of the state's activities to prevent industrial injuries and occupational diseases. In addition the commission examines programs in other states.
