ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDOUS MATERIALS TECHNOLOGY, SPRING 1997

Introduction to Environmental Hazardous Materials Technology EHMT 5 (3 units)
This course is designed to give the student a general overview of the environmental hazardous materials technology area. The history of pollution leading to current legislation, environmental effects of pollution, and an overview or the regulatory framework will be presented. Career opportunities in the areas of handling and management of hazardous substances will be discussed.

Safety and Emergency Response EHMT 55 (4 units)
This course is designed to provide students with hands-on instruction in safety and emergency response to chemical and physical exposures in industrial and field settings. Topics include: hazard analysis, contingency planning, housekeeping and safety pra ctices including proper use and selection of personnel protective equipment, site control and evaluation, handling drums and containers, field sampling and monitoring, proper use of ins truments, incident response planning, emergency response including field exercises in the use of Powered Air-Purifying Respirator and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, and an understanding of the Incident Command System. This course satisfies the requirements for generalized employee training under the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (29 CFR 1910.120)
