Occupational Safety and Health Option

The Basic goals of this major option are to provide the specialized knowledge in the physical and social sciences that will allow the individual to perform the functions within the scope of the professional safety position, and to successfully provide leadership to conserve life, health, and property. This option is designed to give students thorough understanding of the great variety of problems met in the professional position in the occupational safety field.

The curriculum in the Occupational Safety and Health option prepares the individual for safety and health positions with the responsibility of providing and controlling a safe occupational environment.

The instructional program is designed primarily for student who expects to be employed as a safety specialist in manufacturing industries, construction, motor transportation, mining, aerospace industries, insurance and government service. The Occupational and Health Option provides a favorable environment for the study of basic engineering, physical and biological sciences, managerial disciplines, safety and health. It also prepares the student for advanced study in industrial safety, industrial hygiene, human factors, public health, and other related disciplines.

Analysis of operation and processes for solid and hazardous materials generation, storage, processing and disposal; including the review of regulations and industrial applications.

PH 266 Industrial Hygiene Principles (3)

Prerequisite:
PH 202, 206, 209. Theory and Practice of Industrial Hygiene with application of regulations to the recognition, evaluation and control of work place hazards. Evaluation of Industrial Hygiene techniques and instrumentation in the solution of work place hazards.
