PACIFIC GAS AND ELECTRIC COMPANY
Scope: To produce several video training modules to be used as part of applicant's 4-hour Engineering and Construction (ENCON) Business Unit new hire orientation.
Product: Three videos along with instruction manuals. Topics include: "New Employees IIPP Orientation," "Supervisor's Version IIPP Orientation," and "All Employees IIPP Orientation."
INTERNATIONAL WOODWORKERS OF AMERICA
Scope: To develop and distribute a training program for a limited literacy audience on lockout/tagout.
Product: Training manual on lockout/tagout in the wood products industry.
BAKERSFIELD COLLEGE
Scope: To utilize job hazard analysis to identify and control hazards causing accidents; to develop specific preventative measures to lessen or eliminate potential for injury and to provide training to employees designed to inform of potential hazards and what to do to prevent injuries.
Product: Job hazard analyses and slides of safe practices for the classifications of Automotive Technician, Groundsworker, Custodian, Skilled Craftsworker, Electrician, Shipping & Receiving, and Painter.
TEAMSTERS LOCAL 952/FOOD-4-LESS SUPERMARKETS
Scope: To conduct an injury/illness analysis to determine the exact needs of the target groups (warehouse workers) and specialized training for officers and staff of the local unions which service the target members; to conduct presentations and seminars designed to focus on issues relevant to health and safety awareness, both general and specific to the work environment and introduce components to an Early Intervention Program; to focus on warehouse workers' back injuries and cumulative trauma disorders.

>ASSOCIATED GENERAL CONTRACTORS/STATE BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION TRADES COUNCIL
Scope: To develop a minimum of 20 tailgate topics related to the most frequently cited hazard areas; to perform two "train-the-trainer" sessions supporting these tailgate topics; develop a model tailgate training schedule driven by worksite schedules used in planning construction activities and provide outreach to construction companies.

MARIN WATER DISTRICT
Scope: To establish and present a supervisor's safety development course; to train Peer Safety Group Committee members and to present an office safety course to all water district employees.
Product: No "product" developed as a result of project. Training was conducted by an independent consulting firm and materials were purchased from the National Safety Council.
CHRISTIAN GLASS COMPANY
Scope: To develop a comprehensive course curriculum directed at specific and unique hazards associated with glazing and recommended safe work practices to avoid injury; to produce a video to enhance the course training; to conduct a series of seminars.

GOODWILL INDUSTRIES OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
Scope: To implement an audio-visual safety and health education program aimed at proper lifting, first aid, proper workplace housekeeping, hazardous substances handling, emergency evacuation preparedness and fire protection.
Product: No "product" developed as a result of this project. Videos on the subjects described above were purchased and are shown periodically.
<BERKELEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT/CITY OF BERKELEY
Scope: To implement a safety training program directed at reducing the incidence of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) which includes curriculum development, job site inspections, training with videotapes, dissemination of existing information on CTS and a train-the-trainers guide to be distributed to all groups involved in the project.
<Product: Training guide which includes 2 commercially-produced videos (Arranging Your Workstation to Fit You and Exercises at Your Workstation); fact sheets on the following topics: personal workstation checklist, VDT workplace, Musculoskeletal problems and ergonomics, visual problems, reproductive hazards and VDTs, and VDTs and job stress.
CITY OF SAN CLEMENTE
Scope: To provide train-the-trainer instruction in areas of back injury prevention, general safety and stress reduction; to place special emphasis on the most hazardous occupations, i.e., highways and street construction, sanitary services, recreation services, public order and safety.
Product: 3 videos on the following topics: (1) General Safety (2) Stress and (3) The Back. Each video is approximately 50 minutes in length and represents a taped version of training sessions conducted for city employees.
U.C. DAVIS (Environmental Health and Safety)
Scope: To produce a broadcast quality back injury prevention videotape program which will include principles of back injury prevention related to job-specific tasks for firefighters.
Product: "Protecting Your Back" video described above.
MARINA HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING
Scope: To develop materials and secure necessary equipment to train individuals on recapturing and recycling hazardous materials; to develop a mailer to educate contractors regarding liability for proper recovery of CFC's and HCFC's; to train and certify contractors, supervisors, journeymen on proper recovery of these hazardous substances.
Product: A 25-minute video entitled, "Responsible Recovery of Refrigerants" and a "Refrigerant Recovery Safety Program" handbook.
ASSOCIATED ROOFING CONTRACTORS
Scope: To conduct analyses of various types of work to determine the correlation between repetitive motion and injuries and to devise prescriptive exercises. To produce videos in English and Spanish as well as bilingual written materials outlining exercise prescriptions.
Status: In progress. Product not yet available.
CENTRAL LABOR COUNCIL OF SANTA CLARA AND SAN BENITO COUNTIES
Scope: To conduct worksite-based bilingual training and peer training in areas of janitorial service, health care, construction, transportation and hotel janitorial and housekeeping.
Product: Bilingual pamphlets on Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, AIDS/Hepatitis, Back Safety and
Chemical Awareness. Bilingual training manuals on chemical awareness and back safety.
CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH
Scope: To train 20 key administrators, managers, crew leaders and lead workers in the techniques of injury/illness control through train-the-trainer instruction in order to promote safety concepts among all employees.
Product: Manual entitled "An introduction to Modern Safety Management."
SAN FRANCISCO FIRE DEPARTMENT
Scope: To establish a heat stress prevention project to educate firefighters regarding activities which lead to dehydration and methods to prevent this condition form occurring. To develop a train-the-trainer program and a training video that will emphasize early recognition of heat-related disorders and strategies to address them.
Product: Train-the-trainer program manual and video on heat stress prevention.
CALIFORNIA LABOR FEDERATION (Southern California)
Scope: To create a team of 4 safety and health trainers from Central Labor Councils and Building Trades Councils in Southern California to train participants on effective IIPPs, working safely with toxic chemicals, preventing cumulative trauma disorders and construction hazards.
Product: "Safety Net" Training Program manual covering the topics described above.
U.C. DAVIS (Fire Department)
Scope: To update and validate the preplacement medial and physical abilities testing program; to develop and implement a hazardous materials assessment medical monitoring program; to develop and implement a physical fitness program specifically designed for firefighters to maintain a fitness level to prevent injuries/illnesses.
Product: A booklet entitled, "Fit for Duty: A Manual for the Development and Implementation of Duty-Related Fitness Programs for Fire and Hazmat Personnel"
MOTIVE INDUSTRIES
Scope: To develop a training curriculum for auto dismantlers including a train-the-trainer approach; to develop audio-visual materials on proper lifting, forklift operation and other vehicles, exposure to toxic substances, to develop workbooks.
Product: Dismantlers' Safety Handbook (training manual) which includes a trainer's guide and an employer's supplement .
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA RAPID TRANSIT DISTRICT
Scope: To develop a back injury video and training program specifically designed for bus operators, mechanics and service attendants with emphasis on safe postures, adjustment of driver' seats to various body dimensions and other parameters for bus operators. Proper lifting techniques will be emphasized for mechanics and service attendants.
Product: Video and training manuals for a Back Injury Prevention Training Program specifically designed for bus operators, mechanics, and service attendants.
TRI-VALLEY GROWERS
Scope: To identify and evaluate the high risk job tasks in TVG's operations involving repetitive body motions and heavy manual material handling tasks and to develop recommended engineering, administrative and/or training measures to eliminate or control them. To produce a video addressing these ergonomics issues.
Product: English and Spanish videos described above. Activity report contains a detailed account of findings and recommendations.
SAN MATEO-FOSTER CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT
Scope: To implement a focused campaign on improving safety, employee awareness and practices and education of the "workers of tomorrow"; to develop and produce a monthly publication, videos, education, training and recognition materials; to disseminate to other school districts an on-line "Safety Net" information bulletin board and project materials.
Product: Introductory videos which are to be used in conjunction with specific commercial videos. Subjects include (1) electrical safety (2) clericals (3) hazard communication (4) SB 198. Sample newsletters are also available.
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA DISTRICT COUNCIL OF LABORERS
Scope: To produce a comprehensive portable package of instructional materials for entry-level and continuing remedial education of highway construction employees which will include reproduction of a written manual with two 5-minute videos illustrative of the key aspects of safe highway work practices. To reproduce 1500 packages for distribution to appropriate employers (free of charge).
Product: Package entitled "Workers' on Roadways Open to Motorists" which includes training materials and videos.
GRAPHIC COMMUNICATIONS INTERNATIONAL UNION
Scope: To develop technical manuals aimed at printing industry-specific hazards associated with chemical exposures and a guide to ventilation systems. To conduct three one-day seminars covering chemical hazards, noise hazards, workers' compensation, safety and health committees and repetitive motion.
Product: Training manuals described above.
OPERATING AND MAINTENANCE ENGINEERS APPRENTICESHIP AND TRAINING TRUST
Scope: To offer a series of training seminars and workshops aimed at lockout/tagout, hazardous materials handling, asbestos exposure, abatement work practices, medical surveillance rights, environmental and occupational laws, chemical health hazards, air contaminants and electrical hazards.
Product: Instructors manuals and accompanying videos. Training modules include: (1) Safety Laws and How They Affect You, (2) Understanding Hazardous Communication Standards and How They Affect You, (3) Injury and Illness Prevention: How to Prevent Worksite Accidents, (4) Asbestos in the Workplace, (5) Infectious Diseases and (6) Disconnecting, Locking and Tagging-Out.
LOS ANGELES COUNTY FEDERATION OF LABOR
Scope: To examine the health effects of stress and educate workers on how to identify, recognize and respond to stress; how to handle stressful situations when interfacing with others and to provide workers with special training skills to handle safety hazards related to cumulative trauma disorders.

CALIFORNIA PROFESSIONAL FIREFIGHTERS
<Scope: To utilize a worker-based epidemiology project to promote improved health and safety by developing labor/management teams to analyze data gathered by the Personal Exposure Record System and use these analyses to design new ways to reduce exposure to toxic substances and infectious agents.
Product: Manual entitled "Injury & Illness Prevention Through Personal Exposure Reporting" and accompanying video.
INTERNATIONAL UNION OF ELECTRONIC, ELECTRICAL, SALARIED, MACHINE AND FURNITURE WORKERS, AFL-CIO
Scope: To develop an English and Spanish version of a union health and safety action manual; conduct training for 60 union officers and/or health and safety committee persons and hire a bilingual part-time coordinator to work with local unions in addressing ongoing problems.
