Darrel "Shorty" Thacker Reappointed to the
California Commission on Health and Safety and Workers’ Compensation

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Commission on Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation (CHSWC) is pleased to announce that Darrel "Shorty" Thacker, a member of the Commission since 1996, has been reappointed to CHSWC by Governor Gray Davis to represent organized labor. Mr. Thacker is the Central District Manager for the Northern California Council of Carpenters’ Regional Council, a position he has held since 2000. From 1983 to 1997, Mr. Thacker was the Director of Field Support for the Bay Counties District Council of Carpenters. Mr. Thacker served in the Marine Corps from 1996 to 1998 and is a Vietnam veteran.

The Commission, created by the workers' compensation reform legislation of 1993, is charged with overseeing the health and safety and workers' compensation systems in California and recommending administrative or legislative modifications to improve their operation. The Commission was established to conduct a continuing examination of the workers' compensation system and of the state's activities to prevent industrial injuries and occupational diseases and to examine those programs in other states.
