Allen Davenport Reappointed to the
California Commission on Health and Safety and Workers’ Compensation

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Commission on Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation (CHSWC) is pleased to announce that Allen Davenport, a member of the Commission since 2001, has been reappointed to CHSWC by Herb J. Wesson, Jr., Speaker of the California State Assembly to represent organized labor.

Mr. Davenport is the Director of Government Relations for the Service Employees International Union California State Council. A union member since 1971, Allen also was for seven years the chief consultant on employment security programs – job training – on the staff of the state Senate Industrial Relations Committee. Allen serves on the Advisory Committee for the Workers’ Compensation Information System and was a member of the Governing Board of the Workers’ Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau. He is a former Peace Corps volunteer and a graduate of San Francisco State University .

The Commission, created by the workers' compensation reform legislation of 1993, is charged with overseeing the health and safety and workers' compensation systems in California and recommending administrative or legislative modifications to improve their operation. The Commission was established to conduct a continuing examination of the workers' compensation system and of the state's activities to prevent industrial injuries and occupational diseases and to examine those programs in other states.
