To: Parties Interested in Prevention of Repetitive Motion Injuries

On November 15, 2002 the Division of Occupational Safety & Health (the Division) convened an all-day meeting of a Working Group to discuss a Petition filed by the California Labor Federation with the Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board (the Standards Board). The Petition requested amendment of Section 5110, Repetitive Motion Injuries, in Title 8 of the California Code of Regulations. The purpose of this letter is to provide interested members of the public, particularly those who may not have received adequate notice of the November 15 meeting, with an opportunity to review the proceedings of the Working Group and to present comments on the subject matter of the proceedings to the Standards Board at the Standards Board's next meeting on February 20, 2003.

The agenda that was issued for the November 15, 2002 Working Group meeting is included with this notice. In addition to the agenda and this notice letter, a number of items documenting the proceedings of the Working Group meeting, including presentations made by the Division of Occupational Safety and Health and minutes of the meeting, can be viewed at the Internet homepage of the Division of Occupational Safety and Health via a link entitled "Special Ergonomics Meeting." A link to this page will also be available on the Agenda for the Standards Board's February 20, 2003 monthly meeting, which will be posted 10 days prior to the meeting at the Standards Board's website at http://www.dir.ca.gov/OSHSB/oshsb.html.

In addition to the written materials noted above, an audio tape recording of the Working Group meeting is available for review by appointment at the headquarters office of the Division of Occupational Safety and Health at 455 Golden Gate Avenue, 10th Floor, San Francisco. Requests to receive paper copies of the above-mentioned written materials, or to listen to the audio tape recording of the Working Group meeting, should be directed to Bob Barish, Senior Industrial Hygienist at (415) 703-5161.

The Standards Board will be making this special opportunity for comment on the Working Group meeting of November 15 a part of the Public Meeting agenda for its February 2003 meeting. The portion of the Public Meeting that will be devoted to discussion of the Working Group meeting of November 15 will begin promptly at 10 a.m. and will end at the conclusion of the comments the public provides, if any. Comments will be limited to three minutes per speaker.

The meeting will take place on Thursday, February 20, 2003, at 10:00 a.m., in the Auditorium of the State Resources Building, 1416 Ninth Street, Sacramento, California.
