NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING AND HEARING
of the
INDUSTRIAL WELFARE COMMISSION

December 5, 2000
Sacramento

In accordance, with Labor Code Sections 1173, 1176.3, and 1178, the Industrial Welfare Commission ("IWC") will hold a public meeting and investigative hearing on December 5, 2000, to consider testimony and any other information presented regarding the wages, hours, and working conditions of sheepherders as well as an exemption for certain public employees, now covered in Wage Order 14. The IWC may decide to take action with regard to one or both of these matters. The meeting will be held in Sacramento, at the State Capitol, Room 4203, commencing at 10:00 a.m.

AGENDA

  1. Approval of the minutes.

  2. Consideration of a petition requesting the adoption of an amendment to Wage Order 14 calling for a new, total exemption for public employees from that Order, and possible action thereon.

  3. Investigation of whether the wages paid to sheepherders in Wage Order 14 may be inadequate to supply the cost of proper living, or whether the hours or conditions of labor may be prejudicial to the health, morals or welfare of sheepherders, and consideration of whether a wage board should be called.
  4. Any further business that may come before the commission.

In order for the IWC to provide an opportunity for interested parties to speak at the public hearings, the amount of time within which each speaker will be allowed to address the IWC may be limited. Accordingly, the public is urged to submit written statements to the IWC concerning items on the agenda.
