An orientation session on the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine's practice guidelines has been scheduled for January 22, 2004 in Los Angeles at the Airport Marriott.
ACOEM releases the second edition of the guidelines this month, which is particularly important for Californians, because recently enacted AB 227 and SB 228 require that the ACOEM Practice Guidelins shall be "presumptively correct on the issue of extent and scope of medical treatment." The orientation session will focus on understanding the guidelines and how they may be implemented under the new California statutes.
The session is sponsored by ACOEM, DWC, the Commission on Safety and Health and Workers' Compensation (CHSWC), and the California Department of Insurance. The co-sponsers are California Academy of family Physicians and the Western Occupational and Environmental Medical Association.
Guest speakers are expected to include California Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi, DOI Senior Staff Counsel Larry White, DWC Administrative Director Richard Gannon, and CHSWC executive director Christine Baker.
