Ambulance fee schedule will have inflation factor of negative 0.1 percent for 2011
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) have announced that the ambulance inflation factor for calendar year 2011 will be a negative tenth of one percent (-0.1 percent). This is because, although the consumer price index increased by 1.1 percent, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act requires the ambulance inflation factor be reduced by the multi-factor productivity adjustment, which will be 1.2 percent, resulting in an ambulance inflation factor of -0.1 percent. CMS has stated the ambulance inflation factor would be effective as of Jan. 1, 2011, but has not yet published the public use files. DWC will issue an order adopting the 2011 ambulance inflation factor in the ambulance services section of the Official Medical Fee Schedule (OMFS) after CMS publishes the public use files.
