Division of Workers Compensation grants additional grace period for reporting medical lien payments
The California Division of Workers Compensation (DWC) has given claims administrators until Jul. 1, 2007 to begin reporting medical lien payment information to the workers compensation information system (WCIS). Claims administrators are required to electronically report billing data for medical services in compliance with International Association of Industrial Accident Boards & Commissions (IAIABC) standards, which now have incorporated reporting procedures when medical bills in dispute are settled in lump sum payments.
The WCIS will follow the IAIABC standard for processing medical lien payments (see IRR: MED547R1.0). It is expected that the IAIABC standard will be approved this week. Following the IAIACB standard, the DWC is granting a grace period for reporting medical lien payments, until Jul. 1, 2007.
