WCIS Now Accepting Subsequent Reports

WCIS has completed its installation and testing of all hardware and software for processing Subsequent Reports of Injury, the electronic equivalent of benefit notices. Claims administrators that are already in production or piloting First Reports of Injury may submit test transmissions as soon as they are ready, and can submit "live" data as soon as a successful test transmission has been processed.

Full details of the WCIS testing and piloting process are available in Section G of the California EDI Implementation Guide, which can be downloaded from the WCIS Web site (www.dir.ca.gov/dwc/WCIS.htm). The Implementation Guide also contains complete information on WCIS processing of Subsequent Reports. This information can help all claims administrators transmit their data successfully. Claims administrators should refer any specific questions to their WCIS contact person.

Existing regulations require all claims administrators to submit Subsequent Reports for claims with date of injury on or after July 1, 2000. These reports are required whenever indemnity benefits are started, suspended, stopped, changed, delayed, or denied, or when a claim is closed or reopened, or when the claims administrator is notified of employee representation. With the completion of this latest phase of WCIS, the system is ready to receive Subsequent Reports consistent with the regulatory mandate.

The latest WCIS software has been installed on both the production system and a test environment. The WCIS production system is accessed through the same transmission protocols currently being used for First Reports, and accepts both test and production data. Claims administrators that would prefer to first interact with the WCIS test environment should check with their WCIS contact person for details.
