Occasional announcements and technical updates regarding
California's Workers' Compensation Information System (WCIS),
from the California Division of Workers' Compensation

The WCIS Advisory Committee meeting on May 21, 2002 went well. We appreciate all the input and have been discussing ways to effectively respond to all the questions and suggestions. The minutes of the meeting are posted at our website http://www.dir.ca.gov/DWC/WCIS.htm. The main points that we are addressing at this time are:

1. The UR option to allow Trading Partners to catch up with their SROI submittals:
We are currently testing this option to ensure that this will work. This option was originally proposed to address the inability for some Trading Partners to submit all outstanding SROI transactions. It will allow these TPs to submit a UR transaction to allow their claims to be current in the WCIS database. In our next ENews, we plan to announce a schedule and provide information needed to facilitate this. Meanwhile, we encourage all Trading Partners to submit their SROI data.

2. The need for additional support for Trading Partners in their efforts to participate in production status, resolve problems, and receive acknowledgements:
We recently added a third Trading Partner Contact, Alice Cantu (see info below), and are considering the addition of more help.

3. The formation of a WCIS Technical Advisory Committee:
Several Trading Partners have volunteered to participate in this committee. It will provide a forum within which the Division of Workers' Compensation(DWC) can work with Trading Partners to determine how best to proceed with the collection of Medical Billing/Payment data. It will also address other ongoing issues involving the current system of collecting FROIs and SROIs for the WCIS. If you are interested in participating in this committee, please contact Bill Kahley at bkahley@dir.ca.gov or (415)703-4678. The first meeting is scheduled for July 12, 2002.

4. Improving Communications with Trading Partners:
The suggestion of a Q&A Webboard is being discussed within DWC. We also hope to use the ENews more effectively to keep Trading Partners up-to-date on the latest developments. We are open to other suggestions. Please email them to the WCIS email.
