DWC Posts Proposed Changes to WCIS Regulations, EDI Guides for Rulemaking

The Division of Workers' Compensation (DWC) has posted proposed revisions to the Workers' Compensation Information System (WCIS) regulations and the two California EDI (electronic data interchange) Implementation Guides on its rulemaking page. The guides are the California EDI Implementation Guide for First and Subsequent Reports of Injury (FROI/SROI), Version 3.1, and the California EDI Implementation Guide for Medical Bill Payment Records, Version 2.0.

The FROI/SROI Guide has not been updated since 2011 and is being revised to correct minor reporting inefficiencies; improve file transfer security through the use of SFTP; a new file naming convention; and, an enhanced claim validation process.

The EDI Implementation Guide for Medical Bill Payment Records, Version 2.0, was updated earlier this year but requires additional revisions to comply with reporting standards set forth in the IAIABC Workers' Compensation Medical Bill Data Reporting Implementation Guide, Release 2.0, February 1, 2015 Publication. Compliance with the latest standard is essential to enable WCIS to collect data regarding compound and repackaged drugs.

The proposed regulations and the proposed guide revisions will be available on the rulemaking page for public comment until 5pm on March 28, 2016.

A public hearing has been scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 28, 2016, in the Auditorium of the Elihu Harris State Office Building, 1515 Clay Street, Oakland, CA 94612. WCIS trading partner contacts:
