Best Practises - Your Written Program

I. Effective Work Practices

Preventing your employees from developing heat illness is good business. It will benefit your organization by reducing your costs because your employees will stay healthy and more productive. To do this you need to put into place effective work practices and communicate them to your employees in real time throughout the work day. These work practices include providing:

  1. Sufficient Amounts of Drinking Water
  2. Shade and Other Cooling Measures
  3. Adjustments to Workload Severity and Duration
  4. Preventative Recovery Periods
  5. Acclimatization
  6. Extra Measures During Heat Waves
  7. Appropriate Work clothing and Personal Protective Equipment

The key is to adjust your work practices and other preventive measures as temperatures and other workplace conditions change throughout the day.
