If you cannot find the DLSE information you are looking for on this website, DLSE staff are available to assist you over the telephone. For general questions, please call the DLSE office nearest your location. Call volumes may be high, and it may take awhile for your call to go through and/or be answered. If you are calling about a specific case, please call the deputy handling that case.Requests for Information
Due to staffing and business constraints we are unable to accommodate email requests for information at this time. However, in order to offer you as much information as possible, the DLSE website contains several sources for assistance. We recommend that you access basic information provided in our general information lines. Please also check other links to information provided on this site, such as Frequently Asked Questions, Publications and Forms which contain information sheets and brochures on many subject matters that are often the topic of questions, and the How To File a Claim sections. In most cases, you will find an answer to your question.

A request for a legal opinion must be submitted by letter to the Chief Counsel of the Labor Commissioner and must contain a statement that there is no California decision or prior DLSE opinion on point and that you have actively researched the subject matter on the DLSE website, including the DLSE Enforcement Policies and Interpretations Manual found on the website. The request must also contain a statement that the opinion is not sought in connection with anticipated or pending private litigation concerning the issue addressed in the request nor is the opinion sought in connection with an investigation or litigation between a client or firm and the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement.
