Labor and Workforce Development Agency coordinates distribution of worker's back wages

WHAT: The Department of Industrial Relations and the Employment Development Department under the Labor & Workforce Development Agency (LWDA), the U.S. Department of Labor, EMPLEO, and the Mexican Consulate of San Bernardino are holding a press conference to demonstrate the human outcome of a multi-agency enforcement and partnership effort.
WHEN: Friday, March 11, 2005
BACKGROUND: When Oscar Pedroza first approached EMPLEO with complaints of abuse toward him and others by his employer, Best Value Inn, (whose corporate parent company is Sun City Hospitality) he had no idea how far that would go. In fact, EMPLEO contacted the Mexican Consulate and DOL, who in turn contacted DIR. A formal investigation was launched which revealed state and federal violations of wage and hour labor laws, workers compensation, and payroll tax laws, among other things.
INTERVIEWS: Antioco Hernandez and Gustavo Carpio - each to receive $40,000 in back wages. Representatives from LWDA, DIR, EDD, DOL, EMPLEO, Mexican Consulate of Los Angeles.
TIME: 10:00 am
LOCATION: DIR Offices: 320 W. 4th, St, 2nd Floor, Los Angeles, CA 90013
