SAN FRANCISCO -- John C. Duncan, Director of the California Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) is pleased to announce that DIR will make a contribution of new clothing to COPES (Child or Parental Emergency Services), an organization serving the needs of abused and neglected children in Orange County, during an event with some of the children at the COPES facility in Santa Ana.

WHAT:
The donation of new clothes for children served by COPES.
WHY:
As a prelude to Child Abuse Prevention Month. The clothing consists of apparel confiscated from underground shops during investigations by the Department of Industrial Relations. Under the law, the clothing must either be destroyed to prevent it from being resold, or it may be donated for direct distribution to individuals and families. The donation is made to help those in need, on behalf of state labor investigators and victims of the underground economy.
