WILSON MAKES APPOINTMENT TO THE
DEPARTMENT OF INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS

SACRAMENTO --Governor Pete Wilson today announced the appointment of John "Roy" Gabriel as Chief Deputy Director of the Department of Industrial Relations.

Gabriel, of Sacramento, has served as the legislative director of labor affairs for the California Farm Bureau since 1973. He also served as the general manager of Alien Legalization for Agriculture from 1987 to 1994.

Previously, Gabriel served as the agricultural member of the Sacramento County Air Pollution Control Advisory Board from 1978 to 1979. He also served as an assistant secretary for the California State Senate from 1970 to 1972.

A Republican, Gabriel is a member of the Agricultural Personnel Management Association, California Employer Coalition, Agricultural Roundtable, National Council of Agricultural Employers and Californians for Affordable Health Care Reform.

Gabriel earned a bachelor's degree in agricultural business management and crops production from California State Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo in 1968.

This appointment is not subject to Senate confirmation.
