SAN FRANCISCO -- The Industrial Medical Council of California (IMC) has announced that it will sponsor its second one day educational conference for treating physicians from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 1998.
The conference entitled, "Optimizing Performance as a Treating Physician in Workers' Compensation" will take place at the Westin South Coast Plaza located at 686 Anton Boulevard in Cost Mesa.
The purpose of the conference is to give treating physicians a working knowledge of the practice demands in the California workers' compensation system. Since 1993, treating physicians have been given a pivotal role in writing disability reports used to resolve disputes about the injured worker's benefits. Topics covered at the conference include: basic workers' compensation laws affecting the treating physician, how to write disability reports, treatment guidelines, practice management software, confidentiality liability, causation issues and apportionment.
The first conference attracted physicians from around the state and was generally praised as an excellent effort by the IMC, which is part of the Department of Industrial Relations, to educate physicians and provide a forum for exchange of views and opinions about the system.
