Health Care Construction - Public Private Partnership button

California’s growing population and the need for seismically fit health care facilities has led to a dramatic increase in health care construction projects in California, and with it, the need for skilled general contractors and site supervisors who can successfully operate in the health care construction sector. In response to that demand and the shortage of eligible candidates, the public-private partnership was created. This partnership connects hospitals and health care systems with the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency, the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD), the California construction industry, and labor representatives. In the spring and fall the partnership met at two Health Care Construction Summits; below you’ll find information and resources from those summits.

  • Increase the number if construction workers, sub-contractors and general contractors who can work on OSHPD-compliant health care construction contracts in California
  • Leverage health care construction to stimulate the California economy overall
  • Help the health care construction industry reduce costs and complete projects in a timely manner
  • Help recruit and prepare the next generation of specialty skilled construction workers
  • Increase the effectiveness of the OSHPD/health care/health care construction industry partnership
  • Make California’s hospitals safer
