John Wilson Elected 2007 Chair of the California Commission on
Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation

Oakland -- The California Commission on Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation (CHSWC), is pleased to announce the unanimous election of Commissioner John C. Wilson as the Chair of the Commission for 2007. Mr. Wilson, appointed by the Governor to represent employers, is a contract accreditation consultant to the California Association of Joint Powers Authorities. Mr. Wilson currently serves as interim Executive Director of the Schools Excess Liability Fund (SELF) from which he had retired in 2002. Mr. Wilson held positions with several organizations, including the California Chamber of Commerce and the California Coalition on Workers' Compensation. He is a former trustee of the Self-Insurers Security Fund and was a gubernatorial appointee to the Fraud Assessment Commission from 1993 to 1998.

CHSWC, created by the workers' compensation reform legislation of 1993, is charged with overseeing the health and safety and workers' compensation systems in California and recommending administrative or legislative modifications to improve their operation. CHSWC was established to conduct a continuing examination of the workers' compensation system and of the state's activities to prevent industrial injuries and occupational diseases and to examine those programs in other states.
