The Commission on Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation Approves Draft Report on Self Insurance Groups

OAKLAND  --  The Commission on Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation (CHSWC) has released the Revised Draft Report on Self Insurance Groups for public comment.  The report is available at or in person at 1515 Clay Street, Room 901, Oakland, CA. 

The report was prepared in response to the October 6, 2008 request by Assembly member Joe Coto, Chair of the Assembly Insurance Committee that CHSWC analyze the statutory and regulatory oversight of workers’ compensation self insurance groups (SIGs) and make recommendations to ensure the viability of these programs. The revised draft reflects changes in response to comments received after the release of an April 2009 draft. 

The Commission will consider adoption of the revised draft at its December 10, 2009 meeting. Written comments should be submitted via e-mail by December 8, 2009 to Christine Baker ( and Lachlan Taylor (  Oral comments limited to three minutes per person will be received at the December 10 meeting.

CHSWC is charged with overseeing the health and safety and workers’ compensation systems in California and recommending administrative or legislative modifications to improve their operation.  The Commission was established to conduct a continuing examination of the workers’ compensation system and of the state’s activities to prevent industrial injuries and occupational illnesses and to examine those programs in other states.
