ARI-WCIS Comparison and Timeliness of FROI Reporting Reports

Every year, the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) analyzes the consistency of claims reported on the DWC Audit Unit Annual Report of Inventory (ARI) with claims and injuries reported to the Workers’ Compensation Information System (WCIS).   DIR also reviews the timeliness of WCIS First Reports of Injury (FROIs) to see how adequately claims administrators are meeting FROI reporting requirements.

Trading partner specific ARI-WCIS Comparison and Timeliness of FROI Reporting reports have been sent.  The ARI-WCIS reports cover claims reported to claims administrators in 2012 and the Timeliness of FROI Reporting reports cover claims reported to claims administrators in 2011 and 2012 .  They were sent via email to the contact person listed on the ARI as well as to trading partner business and technical contacts who have notified DWC of their desire to receive WCIS reports.

To compare ARI claim counts with WCIS counts, DWC researchers matched claim administrator Federal Employer Identification Numbers (FEINs) to audit locations.  DWC then aggregated the claims submitted electronically to the California WCIS for all audit locations.  DWC was able to match most claims reported to the WCIS to an audit location.  For claims administrators with multiple audit locations, one report with data aggregated for all locations will be sent to each location.  If any assignments of FEINs and/or grouping of audit locations are incorrect, please inform DWC by emailing your WCIS contact person

The FROI timeliness reports were calculated using the date of transmission and the date the claim was reported to the claim administrator.  Reports were not prepared for claims administrators who did not report these data elements to WCIS.

If you are a trading partner business or technical contact and you would like to be added to the WCIS reports e-mail list, please do so by e-mailing your WCIS trading partner contact.  For insurers that send data to the WCIS through a third party administrator (TPA), please contact your TPA directly if you would like a copy of your TPA's data quality report.
