Labor Commissioner files multi-million dollar lawsuit to retrieve wages owed to janitorial workers

WHAT The California Labor Commissioner today filed legal action against Cleaning & Building Services, Inc., and MO Restaurant Cleaning of California, Inc., for failing to pay approximately 300 janitorial workers proper wages and engaging in unfair business practices and seeks damages exceeding $5 million. The companies operated in Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego Counties. The California Labor Commissioner presented the case to the State Attorney General who agreed to join the legal action.

WHY To respond to questions regarding the legal action that resulted from an investigation initiated by the labor commissioner in 2006. The investigation uncovered a failure provide meal and rest breaks, failure to pay employees all earned wages and overtime to which they were entitled. Also, the collaborative effort with the Attorney General will being additional resources to address the abuses to employees.
