STATE OF CALIFORNIA {Seal of the Governor of California} PROCLAMATION by the Governor of the State of California WHEREAS, this landmark legislation created California's apprenticeship program which offers high school students the opportunity to receive paid, on-the-job training while pursuing their education; and WHEREAS, nearly 60,000 Californians are currently involved in apprenticeship programs, acquiring job skills in industries such as manufacturing, health care, entertainment, culinary arts and building; and WHEREAS, graduates of apprenticeship programs make significant contributions to the economy of the Golden State; and WHEREAS, the California apprenticeship system is a unique partnership between industry, education and government which enhances the career opportunities for thousands of Californians; NOW, THEREFORE, I, GRAY DAVIS, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim October 1999 as "Apprenticeship Month."
