HAVE YOU EVER CALLED IN SICK...
BUT WERE REALLY HOME WAITING FOR THE CABLE GUY?

Hereís some good news for those of us who have: Under the new California overtime rules effective January 1, 1998, we may never have to fib again. The new rules make it easier for many employers to offer flexible work hours, alternate work schedules, and even make-up time for employees with unexpected absences.

Under the new rules* ** overtime pay begins after the 40th hour in a workweek. This means that your employer may be better able to accommodate individual employees who want to try a variety of flexible work schedules. Whether itís a four-ten schedule with 3 days off, or an alternating five-nine schedule with a 3-day weekend every other week, this new flexibility will help bring greater balance between work life and personal life.

Here are some of the things you might enjoy if your employer agrees to provide flexible work weeks under the new rules:

Sound attractive? Then you may want to let your employer know about the possibilities available under the new California overtime rules.

*The changes effective 1/1/98 apply to hourly workers under Wage Orders 1, 4, 5, 7 and 9.

** The new rules do not apply to workers who are under a collective bargaining contract if the contract specifies hours of work and overtime pay requirements
