Commission on Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation

SAN FRANCISCO -- The California Commission on Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation has finalized its meeting schedule through the end of 1997 and has tentatively set its meeting schedule for 1998. These meeting dates have been selected so that they do not conflict with the scheduled meetings of the Industrial Medical Council.

In October 1997, there will be no Commission meeting.

On Friday, November 21, 1997, the Commission will be hosting a public forum entitled "Summit on California Workers' Compensation Permanent Disability", at the South San Francisco Conference Center near the San Francisco airport. The purpose of the Summit is to provide an opportunity for the public to comment on the Permanent Disability study report, developed by RAND under contract with the Commission. Information about the Summit may be obtained by contacting the Commission.

On Thursday, December 18, 1997, the Commission will meet at 10 am at the California Department of Consumer Affairs located at 400 "R" Street in Sacramento.

The Commission has tentatively set the following meeting schedule for 1998.

The Commission, created by the workers' compensation reform legislation of 1993, is charged with overseeing the health and safety and workers' compensation systems in California and recommending administrative or legislative modifications to improve their operation. The Commission was established to conduct a continuing examination of the workers' compensation system and of the state's activities to prevent industrial injuries and occupational diseases and to examine those programs in other states.
