SAN FRANCISCO--The Commission on Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation is pleased to announce the election of Tom Rankin as Chairman of the Commission for 1996.
Tom Rankin, a member of the Commission since its inception in 1994, is a legislative representative as well as Research Director for the California Labor Federation, AFL-CIO.
The Commission, created by the workers' compensation reform legislation of 1993 is charged with overseeing the health and safety and workers' compensation systems in California and recommending administrative or legislative modifications to improve their operation. The Commission was established to conduct a continuing examination of the workers' compensation system and of the state's activities to prevent industrial injuries and occupational diseases and to examine those programs in other states.
The Commission is currently focused on several projects, including workers' compensation permanent disability benefits and the impact of the workers' compensation reform legislation on the California system. The Commission is hosting an educational seminar in April entitled "Challenges in California Workers' Compensation: A Symposium".
