The Commission on Health and Safety and Workers’ Compensation Approves Handbook on Helping Injured Employees Return to Work

OAKLAND  --  The Commission on Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation (CHSWC) has approved for circulation and feedback Helping Injured Employees Return to Work: Practical Guidance Under Workers’ Compensation and Disability Rights Laws in California, a handbook for employers, especially small businesses. The handbook provides information about the legal requirements for employers under workers’ compensation and the Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA). It also includes best practices in returning an injured employee to work, focusing on the requirements of the interactive process under FEHA. Additional Resources are provided on California’s workers’ compensation laws and California disability rights under FEHA.

CHSWC is charged with overseeing the health and safety and workers’ compensation systems in California and recommending administrative or legislative modifications to improve their operation.  The Commission was established to conduct a continuing examination of the workers’ compensation system and of the state’s activities to prevent industrial injuries and occupational illnesses and to examine those programs in other states.
