Angie Wei appointed to the California Commission on Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation

SAN FRANCISCO -- The California Commission on Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation (CHSWC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Angie Wei to the Commission by Senator Don Perata, Chairman of the Senate Rules Committee, to represent organized labor.

Ms. Wei is the Legislative Director of the California Labor Federation, the state AFL-CIO federation. The state federation represents 1,200 affiliated unions and over two million workers covered by collective bargaining agreements. Previously, Ms. Wei was a Program Associate for PolicyLine of Oakland, California, and advocated for the California Immigrant Welfare Collaborative, a coalition of four immigrant rights organizations that came together to respond to cuts in public benefits for immigrants as a result of the 1996 federal welfare reform law. Ms. Wei holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Asian American Studies from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master's of Public Policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

CHSWC, created by the workers' compensation reform legislation of 1993, is charged with overseeing the health and safety and workers' compensation systems in California and recommending administrative or legislative modifications to improve their operation.

The Commission was established to conduct a continuing examination of the workers' compensation system and of the state's activities to prevent industrial injuries and occupational diseases and to examine those programs in other states.

Information about CHSWC may be accessed on the Internet at CHSWC's home page at www.dir.ca.gov/chswc. Information may also be obtained by writing to CHSWC at 1515 Clay Street, Suite 901, Oakland, California, 94612, by calling (510) 622-3959, or by faxing a request to (510) 622-3265.
